We left this lovely Grand Island IOA, NE site at 9:15 to 71degrees and windy and arrived at our Odessa, NE Country Gardens RV Park at 3:15 and 91 degrees with high humidity and VERY strong winds.
After driving 323 miles, two hands and white knuckled to stay on the road the entire trip, Bill was quite tired. Our camp desk attendant said, "today winds were sustained 35mph and 40mph gusts." We believed her. I told her the camp owner in Cheyenne, WY told us he drove in 80mph winds pulling his travel trailer to a campsite in southern Wyoming and parked his pickup truck along side his trailer just in case the trailer blew over!" She said, Hmmm, probably not 80mph winds because 60-70mph is way too dangerous to drive on the road, but I believe his story." Today was probably the windiest day we've had on our entire trip. Even the construction signs that were weighed down by sandbags or on springs were blown over along miles of highway. The wind blew the entire day and even after we were done setting up, inside our travel trailer we heard the loud gusts and felt the trailer rock. It settled down after we went to bed.

We're headed south now towards Nashville, TN to see Meriwether Lewis' grave site in Hohenwald, TN but since Seattle, we've been driving SE, then due East through WA, OR, ID, WY, NB, now MO. Nebraska is corn land and flat.
We crossed the Missouri River again by Nebraska City, IO. There was considerable traffic on the road today as we drove through the cities of Lincoln, NE, Nebraska City, IO, Kansas City, MO, (didn't touch Kansas City, KS) and through Independence MO (where the Harry Truman Library is located). Nebraska again is flat, dry and acres and acres of dry corn much of it now being harvested by huge combines, tractor trailers and 4 wheeled field tractors and wagons.
